Why The Salt Miner?
The Importance of The Salt Miner
Removing Salt for On-site Recycling & Protecting Water Quality for the Future
The Salt Miner plays a crucial role in addressing the pressing need to remove salt from commercial and industrial water treatment processes, thereby safeguarding water quality for future generations. With a focus on two main sources of brine, ion exchange regeneration and cooling tower blowdown, The Salt Miner offers a sustainable solution to mitigate salt pollution and promote on-site water conservation and recycling.
Billions of Pounds of Salt End Up In Our Wastewater Everyday
Industrial Wastewater
Industrial wastewaters contain a variety of salts & are largely regulated today – The Salt Miner is a better alternative than current practices because it will provide on-site treatment, recycling the water for re-use
Water Softeners
Water softeners alone discharge 3 billion pounds per day – softeners are largely un-regulated currently, but water managers are looking to do something to prevent this pollution – The Salt Miner retrofits onto any softener allowing owners to continue to realize the benefits of their investment
Preventing salt from getting into wastewater is less expensive than dealing with them at the end-of-pipe at the wastewater treatment plant, and has countless other benefits.
Benefits of
The Salt Miner
Cost-Effective Retrofit
The Salt Miner provides a low-cost retrofit solution for existing water softeners and cooling towers to efficiently remove salts and facilitate on-site water conservation & recycling.
Prevention of "Source Control"
Prevents the “source control” of salt pollution, offering a politically acceptable solution without the need to outlaw softener installations or remove existing units.
Generation of Recyclable Sludge
Generates a semi-solid sludge for recycling or proper disposal, enhancing sustainability efforts.
Versatile Application
Can be utilized on any brine stream, including industrial wastewater and food processing waste, offering flexibility in implementation.
Water Quality Enhancement
Reduces salt levels to protect water quality, infrastructure investment, and the environment, ensuring a sustainable water supply for future generations.
Regulatory Compliance
Aligns with current regulatory regimes, providing an effective alternative to existing practices and promoting adherence to salt pollution regulations.
Operational Efficiency
Operates under a pay-by-the-gallon model to minimize capital expenses, offering a cost-effective solution for businesses and industries.
Environmental Protection
By significantly reducing the discharge of salt into natural water bodies, The Salt Miner helps preserve aquatic ecosystems, protects biodiversity and the overall balance of the environment.
Reduced Air Pollution
By enabling on-site recycling of water and reducing the need for transporting large volumes of liquid, The Salt Miner helps minimize air pollution associated with transportation activities.
On-Site Water Recycling
Enables on-site water recycling, eliminating the need to transport large volumes of liquid and reducing associated air pollution, contributing to sustainability efforts.
Enhanced Public Health
The Salt Miner contributes to safeguarding public health by preserving the quality of drinking water sources and minimizing health risks associated with salt contamination.
Long-Term Cost Savings
The implementation of The Salt Miner leads to long-term cost savings for businesses/industries by minimizing the need for costly treatments and infrastructure repairs from high salt concentrations in wastewater.
The Water Value Cycle
The Salt Miner fits into the Water Value Cycle as a technology to help public water systems (utilities) and their customers (the End User) deal with brine generated as a result of their treating “raw water” to make the water useable for the intended application. Utilities need to remove contaminants like nitrates or arsenic from their water supply to make it meet health standards prior to putting the now treated water into the Distribution System (the pipes, valves and pumps that move the now treated water to the End User.) Removing these contaminants produces a wastewater (a “brine”) that must be managed. The Salt Miner further removes the contaminant producing useable water and a solid containing the target contaminant.
End Users receive the treated water from the utility. To the different End Users this is “raw water” because it has hardness and other non-health related contaminants and thus it needs to be further treated so that it is suitable for the specific intended use. These treatments produce another wastewater (a “brine”). The Salt Miner further removes these contaminants producing useable water and a solid containing these target contaminants.
In both cases the water after treatment by The Salt Miner is re-useable allowing for on-site recycling – the most efficient way to conserve and recycle water.
